Library Services & Hours

  • Hours of Operation: The Law Library is open to the public Wednesday through Friday 10 am to 4:30 pm. Closed on Monday and Tuesday. Our hours are subject to change at short notice so you are encouraged to call ahead to make sure there is staffing. 360-778-5790
  • Assistance to Library Users: Library staff cannot give legal advice or interpret materials, but can assist in locating and using legal research materials in print and electronic formats.
  • Subscription Databases:  The library provides free access to a wide range of WestLaw® subscription databases for legal research.
  • Attorney Access: Members of the Whatcom County Bar Association may access the Law Library after hours. Please call the librarian for information.
  • Circulation: Materials must be used in the library; no check-out is available as the collection is a reference only collection. Attorneys practicing in Whatcom County may check-out non-reserve items for a short period by arrangement.
  • Public Access Computers & Copier/Scanner: Six computers are available to access legal research databases or work on legal pleadings. A photocopier/scanner is available for public use (cash only).
  • Library Tours: Law library will be available for tours for school classes or other interested groups once our covid restrictions are lifted. Please call to arrange.

Legal Research

The Law Library maintains a website of legal research links, including free sources for statutes, case law, and public records. 

Library Collection & Catalog

The library's print collection and catalog contains approximately 15,000 volumes including the fundamental Washington laws and practice guides, federal laws, U.S. Supreme Court reports, Washington case law, legal encyclopedias, digests, selected treatises, and law reports. Mission & Funding

The Law Library serves the citizens and legal community of Whatcom County. Our mission is to provide access to current legal research materials and referral to other resources. County law libraries are established by Washington Law RCW 27.24 and funded through a portion of local court filing fees. The Whatcom County Law Library also receives an annual donation from the Whatcom County Bar Association.
